Description

Another Lucky shot !
Standing waiting for a cloud to move away from the sun behind me,
camera ready, place absolutely swarming with tourists !
The cloud moves and this guy walks into frame !!
The title is from a video I shot in Egypt
and I will post the cover of the dvd next... next Christmas lol

If you look at the top you will see what is a lightening rod on top. Didnt see it on the day.
This is my first Digital image ! taken on Sigma SD-10 20mm Prime lens.
Taken from a series of photos from Egypt ... including 99% DNA Match by GFXartist sponsor Almost-Human ;)

Never been, always wanted to go, even though I know its never like it looks in the photos...loads of tourists! This looks great. I absolutely love the rocks in the foreground, they just add so much more to this iconic image. The man is a nice touch too, adds a bit of contrasting colour. Great photo. Where in Island is this anyway?

That rock looks like a fossilised dragons head! Well this is GFX and its full of dragons so I thought I'd make you feel more at home with that observation. Welcome to GFX :)

V ery nice shot, Brian. Good composition and well exposed. You've conveyed well here a sense of depth and scale. Well done.

Oh, I like the Moser exclamation point in your title (!)

Avatar Abstractor

 03/16/06 @708

Hey this is a great photo, the composition is really good. for my taste, and you know it tends toward darker, a little less brightness and maybe....a tad more contrast. of course just my taste. :) a very good work Brian.

How could a one-legged man walk into the frame? And what is that under the fabric next to the man's hand?
Curious (and slightly perverted) minds want to know.
I think that might be an antenna on the top of the pyramid, I would have thought Egypt would have been hooked up with cable or satellite by now........
Did you know that the stones in that pyramid are fitted so tightly together that one can't slip a piece of notebook paper between them? And why would someone carry a piece of notebook paper out to a pyramid?
Well, that's about as long a comment as I've written in the last year and a half; I see now why I don't do it more often .
Nice to see a new face at GFX.

omg... A-H posted
great capture... whats that on top of the pyramid?

Avatar Wysiwyg

 03/16/06 @787

Holy $hit you posted again

Very clean...the contrast of the guy with the background counter balances the contrast of the pyramid on sky. (thumbup)

Too bad there wasn't something else in the far distance to give a feel of a decisive foreground/middle/background.

Alot of leading lines direct you to the pyramid, yet the man fights for focal dominance....so the image comes across a tad bit flat. But like I said...it's not something you could have helped.

Other than that...it's a great shot.

Avatar LolaRisinghorn

 03/16/06 @808

Woohoo, your annual post is early! Now what to look forward to?
Good shot Brian. Very clear with a good compo. But would love to see some more contrast in colours or so.

Who chopped of the top of the pyramid?!

Andy.. You are right about the Dragons.. lol
that brings me nicely to the one person who didnt vote.
Repercutir. I will move it to photomanip when you move this.. :)
Paradoxical antagonism by  Repercutir

Sdavis75, your right its exposure is spot on.. the smoke in the guys hand is white and with detail as is his scarf... So well spotted. nothing is burned out on this image ..

Keith.. I understand you are not well , no I am joking.. you know I respect your photography, I wanted to convey the place for what it was, scorching hot...

Cigaro.. thank you !

Skulpturro.. Very well spotted, how does a one legged man walk into frame. I am tempted to reply "WITH great difficulty".. but he is in fact not one legged, his other leg is under his outfit, hence the bulge.. I thought he was well endowed myself !

oldSkool87.. LOL

Wysiwyg. thank you for your post, as for some thing been between the forground and the background, "take it up with the egyptians !" but i think you are about 4000 years late and this guy was having nothing to do with me, but I think the natural stone behind him works exactly that way..

Ingrid.. I actually have a red cart in another shot that I paid to travel up to the top of a hill about 3 miles away.. imagine trying to get a cart driver to take direction from that distance.. this as I said was a lucky shot as I also have it without the man in it.. I forgot to bring my troop of traditional Egyption dancers with me... Damn,, andy wouldnt have made that mistake... ;)
As always cheers for the time you all took to post and its appreciated as always.. and cheers for the votes. I dont like votes... I LOVE THEM !! ;)

I love the way that you have captured this iconic structure of long ago , its majesty and also its innate peace and stillness ... to see the juxtaposition on the man with this massive structure , calls forth even more reverence, he is weathered and resting .. as much so as the pyramid is ... it is a very peaceful image to me, it harnesses the roughness of the land , and the perfection of a creation long since built ..with humanity .. simply exquisite...

I think the due with a siggy in the picture ruins it a bit for me...you said uou had one without him..That would be picture I love so I am still gone give you a 5/7 vote because technally speaking it's perfect...only just not my taste,

At first I could not believe my eyes: Brian is posting a picture.
And, once I clicked: already so many comments.
You really leave deep prints on all of us :)
I especially like the subtle gradient in the sky with the pyramid peaking antagonistically and symmetrically into it. Here, the symmetry of the pyramid
works well, as the man and the rock formation in the front shifts the weight
to the left.
Well chosen POV.

Maaan.. You are one lucky bastard ;);)
I love the composition of this image, and the brightess, seems to me that it really was smouldering hot there. :)
And that guy sitting there (is it really you? :p), adds a lot to this picture, gives it some counterweight. Otherwise it would be" just another shot of a pyramid", although I would still love this picture, with that "crock-rock" and all.
That "croc-rock" brings a nice touch to the picture too. :)

Well, my mum was always really crap with a camera.... used to chop of heads 'n feet 'n elbows 'n stuff.... but it beats me how you managed to miss that poor sods leg outa this snap. A-H Sausage-Fingers strikes again...

Great pic, with good choice of angle. You've managed to capture the fairly primitive form of the pyramid whilst introducing a further number of interesting details into the scene without overpowering the main theme. The lighting is good, whilst you've managed to keep much of the detail, despite distance. Good presentation Brian... 'n besides, pyramids are pretty cool anyway :p
